Recently we traveled to China to get in touch with some new suppliers of finishing equipment. It was a busy trip, we were always on the move. From factory to factory to airport to hotel, we didn’t get to do much tourist stuff like seeing the Great Wall or going to Karaoke. We did make some good friends for the few days we were there, and drank a lot of Tsingtao (Chinese Beer), and eat at some authentic Chinese restaurants. We were also in some pretty amazing car/bus trips, where we witnessed and lived through the worst traffic jam ever, and got to see the Chinese driving ethic, which was scary to say the least. Here’s some photos of the friends we made. More to come…

This is a picture of Frank, Ms. Zu, me and Anthony. We like Ms. Zu, she was very nice and showed us new ways to make sample books. Good on ya ZuZu!

Last night we attended The Children’s Aid Foundation of York Region’s Spotlight 2009 at Le Parc Banquet Hall. It was a showcase of youth talent in our community, and a lovely dinner and drinks. We sponsored the event by donating all tickets, brochures, programs and printed materials for the evening. Good times at table 11, contact us if your organization is interested in printing programs or sponsorship.
Pretty much nothing, except for Movember! Yes, its that time of the year…for those who don’t know, Movember is a men’s health awareness month, specifically for prostate cancer awareness. We decided to take part in Movember this year, check out my mustache, its only a baby (3 weeks old) but it’s growing everyday!
To get involved, check out our Mo’Space @ and make a donation today. It’s safe, secure, tax deductible, and for a great cause. Or if you prefer not to donate, just be part of the movement and grow a mustache.

For more info, check out www.movember.com

Whats the deal with FSC? Well, there’s a lot of details to explain, best thing to do is jsut check out this site http://www.fsccanada.org/whatwedo.htm.
At Copywell, we decided to jump on the FSC bandwagon last year, and it has really helped us serve our customers with more environmentally responsible products. All of our house stocks are FSC certified, so any job you get from us, you can be assured that we have done our part in purchasing paper that is from responsibly managed forests. Ask us about FSC, and how we can help you market your business with the FSC designation.

One thing we get asked a lot is, “how much does it cost to ____”. Well, the answer is not very simple, we have to know a few things before we tell you a price. Typically, here are the factors that contribute to the cost of printing with us.
- Finished Size
- Colour or Black
- Single or Double Sided
- Paper Type
- Quantity
Once we know those, factors, we can quote you. We also have a cool system that you can log on to and get a quote on more complex projects, and play around with different options to get different quotes. Visit http://quotes.copywell.com and register an account (its free, of course…) or just call Mark Lacaria (905 264 6006 ext. 113) and ask him to get you a price. We pride ourselves on being super-fast with quotes, so give us a call if your not into the internet quoting thing.
With us moving locations, part of the plan is to put in some new equipment. Currently, here is what we’re running at Copywell. For all of those people out there who need to know about how to submit files to us at Copywell, here is a simple list of requirements:
1. High Resolution PDF (at least 300 DPI)
2. RGB for photos, CMYK for everything else
3. Outline fonts, or supply them with the file
4. At least 0.125″ (1/8th) of bleed, on all sides that require bleed
5. Always 1 up, or single pages, do not impose the file on a press sheet, we’ll take care of that.
For more detailed requirements, see File Requirements, the detailed version.
So its time to officially move. We have seen a few moves in the time Copywell has been around. It started in downtown Toronto, now operates in Vaughan, just at Langstaff & Hwy 400 (60 Creditview to be exact…). This time around, we have to move a lot of warehouse equipment, its kinda a big deal, but we will manage. Long days and longer nights; here is a pic of the dismantling of the print room.
